ISAIL's Publication Featured on Council of Europe AI Initiatives Website

This is some humbling news, which we as the ISAIL Secretariat, are delighted to share.

The Council of Europe has listed the 2020 Handbook on AI and International Law, one of the leading AI and International Law publications by Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law as the only Indian AI initiative on their website, apart from the NITI Aayog's 2018 National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence.

This is a great moment for us and even our esteemed Founder & Chairperson, Mr Abhivardhan, since the 2020 and 2021 Handbooks were the initiatives that he had led under his leadership at ISAIL in 2020-22. It's been 2 years since the last handbook was achieved.

This also matters to us because ISAIL has always been an independent initiative to engage and create a #democratic and #open discourse on AI regulation & standardisation in #Bharat. Hence, we are glad.

The AI and International Law handbooks encompass around 46 chapters in total, which cover legal implications of #artificialintelligence across various international law fields. Starting and completing this project was not an easy task to begin with.

We are thankful to Justice JR Midha, former judge at Delhi HC for releasing the 2021 Handbook and to Mr Benoit Sauvorche from the European External Action Service, India Mission for releasing the 2020 Handbook.

We are honored to have Mr. Eugenio V. Garcia, a distinguished Brazilian diplomat (former Advisor to the President of the UNGA), author the foreword for the 2020 Handbook. Additionally, we are privileged to have Mr. Gregor Strojin and Mr. Ish Jain author forewords for the 2021 Handbook.

You can access the AI and International Law handbooks here:

Since 2022, the research operations of the Society have been subsumed under VLiGTA® by Indic Pacific Legal Research.

ISAIL has supported two independent journals, namely - the Indic Journal of International Law and the Indian Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Law. It also supports an independent media and community initiative - The Bharat Pacific.

ISAIL’s India-centric AI policy documentations, community-centric initiatives, and contributions to AI standardisation in India have been acknowledged by the Council of Europe, quite recently.

The Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law (ISAIL.IN) is an artificial intelligence industry forum, founded by Abhivardhan in 2018. Our mission as an independent, not-for-profit industry forum for the analytics & AI industry in India is to promote responsible development of artificial intelligence and its standardisation in India.

Enforcing AI standards in the Indian and Indo-Pacific markets is hard. And yet, ISAIL.IN intends to document data and inputs associated with the market tendencies around three facets of artificial intelligence: its adoption, research around it, and its real-life policy implications across as many sectors as possible.

This is why, the AiStandard.io Alliance, administered by ISAIL.IN, intends to establish an allies of AI entities in India, Asia and the Global South, to develop market-friendly AI standards, with sector-specific, and sector-neutral contexts.
