His informatics and analytics research focuses on Information and Corporate Governance, with particular interest in the trustworthiness and value of location data collected through smart devices and the Internet of Things. This area has critical implications for business applications, such as crowdsourcing location data, as well as criminal forensics and law.
Richard's work, in collaboration with his students, has earned recognition as a leading authority on the accuracy of Assisted GPS location services in smart devices like smartphones. He has presented their findings and implications at multiple conferences, establishing a reputation for excellence in this field.
In pedagogical research, Richard explores innovative methods for teaching and assessing transferable skills more effectively than traditional approaches. He is currently investigating the impact of small-group, lab-based teaching with full access to e-resources, combined with seminars and workshops. By leveraging research and problem-based learning, he is developing a more effective use of scheduled contact time, helping students enhance their research skills and academic outcomes.
