Call for Entries: The 1st International AI Ethics and Law Essay Competition by IJAIL | [UPDATED]

About the competition

The Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Law (IJAIL) [E-ISSN: 2582-6999] is pleased to announce that it is launching the 1st edition of its International Essay Writing Competition on AI Ethics and Law.

About IJAIL

The Indian Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Law [E-ISSN: 2582-6999] is a biannual law journal covering technology law in a combination of theoretical and practical approaches run by the Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law. It also provides coverage of the relationship between law and artificial intelligence in businesses, education, research and innovation practices. The journal publishes 2 issues per year in due frequency. The next submission for Volume 1 Issue 2, 2021 is to be published by April 2021.

Categories and Word Limit

Articles/Policy Analysis: 2500-10,000 words

Themes

Any academic or policy issue concerning the field of Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Law would be appreciated.

Editorial Guidelines

  • Co-authorship: Max 2 co-authors

  • References: Format of in-text citations following the ISO 690: 2010 (First Element & Date) standard.

  • No references are allowed whether in the format of endnotes or footnotes.

  • However, footnotes providing further information or subjective notes are allowed.

  • The standard of any manuscript submitted to ISAIL is decided on the basis of the Research Writing Guidelines and the Editorial Guidelines for Authors. Please refer to isail.in/publications for more details and reference.

  • All submissions, after due registration – shall be mailed at editorial.isail@gmail.com with Subject as “IJAIL Essay 2021 - <Name of Author> - <Date of Submission in DD-MM-YYY format>” along with the Ticket received – which confirms your registration in the competition.

  • In the mail of submission, you have to mention your name, affiliation, email ID and phone number only. Further details based on circumstances will be mentioned effectively.

Prizes

1. Top 25 essays will get a merit certificate and an Internship Opportunity with ISAIL

2. Top 3 essays will also get a cash prize as follows:

  • 1st Prize – 2,500 INR

  • 2nd Prize – 1,000 INR

  • 3rd Prize – 500 INR

3. Top 5 essays may be published in the next Issue of IJAIL.


Who can participate?

  • Indian Students who are in the 3rd year of their LLB degrees (3 year course) or in the 4th/5th year of their Integrated LLB degrees (5 year course) (pursuing a law degree from a recognised university) can participate.

  • Open to all foreign students (pursuing a law degree from a recognised university)

  • Open to scholars, professors and advocates

How to Register?

  • For Indian Students – Registration Fee (Mandatory) – 5 USD/370 INR

  • For Foreign Students – No Registration Fee is mandatory [Free of Cost]

  • For Academics, Bureaucrats, Practitioners and Professionals – No Registration Fee is mandatory [Free of Cost, provided verification is done]

  • We would however urge a request to foreign students and people under the academics/professionals/bureaucrats/practitioner category to contribute 5 USD as a Contribution Fee, to support the cause of ISAIL. This request is not mandatorily connected with the registration completion of any foreign student or academics/professionals/bureaucrats/practitioner.

  • The Contribution Fee is not refundable. Failure to submit manuscript on time is the sole responsibility of the registrant and not of the organizers.

The Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law is a technology law think tank founded by Abhivardhan in 2018. Our mission as a non-profit industry body for the analytics & AI industry in India is to promote responsible development of artificial intelligence and its standardisation in India.

 

Since 2022, the research operations of the Society have been subsumed under VLiGTA® by Indic Pacific Legal Research.

ISAIL has supported two independent journals, namely - the Indic Journal of International Law and the Indian Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Law. It also supports an independent media and podcast initiative - The Bharat Pacific.
