The ISAIL Secretariat Congratulates Professor Ashoke Sen on receiving the 2026 Oskar Klein Medal

The Secretariat and Global Advisory Council of the Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law warmly congratulate Professor Ashoke Sen on receiving the 2026 Oskar Klein Medal, becoming the first Indian physicist to receive this distinguished honour. His pioneering contributions to string theory have advanced fundamental physics and brought lasting distinction to Indian science.
This recognition holds particular significance for Uttar Pradesh. Having pursued his master's degree at IIT Kanpur and spent over two decades at the Harish-Chandra Research Institute in Allahabad, now Prayagraj, Professor Sen has a deep and enduring association with the state. Uttar Pradesh has been an important karmbhoomi in his scientific life, sustaining a substantial chapter of his research career.
His achievement is also an occasion to recognise the institutions and intellectual environments that enable sustained scientific inquiry. As our work on the UP.AIACT.IN Report 2026 considers Uttar Pradesh's future in artificial intelligence, Professor Sen's career reminds us of the enduring importance of fundamental research, patient institution-building and opportunities for scientific talent to flourish.
We celebrate this recognition of Professor Sen's extraordinary contributions and extend our warmest wishes for his continued work at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bengaluru.
With regards,
Bogdan Grigorescu (Chairperson), Ayushi Agarwal (Co-Chairperson) & Dr Vignesh Ram, PhD (Deputy Chairperson)
