ISAIL Academic Members

1. Designation and Transitional Reclassification

This Schedule governs the rights, obligations, and academic standing of Academic Members and Honorary Academic Members within the Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law (ISAIL). Effective immediately, all individuals previously holding the status of Patron Members, or Ordinary Members elevated thereunder, shall formally and exclusively be referred to as Academic Members. Concurrently, the Secretariat may confer the distinction of Honorary Academic Member upon senior scholars, jurists, or technical specialists of exceptional eminence.

2. Institutional Standing, Term, and Ethical Adherence

Academic Membership is conferred in recognition of verifiable scholarship, professional prudence, and sustained contributions to the interdisciplinary governance of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and jurisprudence. The tenure of an Academic Member is subject to periodic review and renewal by the Secretariat under the supervisory authority of the Board of Trustees. All Academic Members and Honorary Academic Members must strictly abide by the code of conduct, anti-corruption safeguards, and conflict-of-interest disclosures mandated under Article 4 (Members). The Secretariat reserves the right to revoke academic status for any breach of ethics or conduct detrimental to the integrity and mission of ISAIL.

3. Deliberative, Working Group, and Convening Privileges

Academic Members are eligible to participate in specialized working groups, study tracks, and research initiatives administered by the ISAIL Academic Council and the OpenBharat.net Governing Council (OBGC). Subject to formal appointment, qualified Academic Members may serve as Technical Convenors or Policy Convenors. They may propose and convene symposia, roundtables, and consultative panels under the OpenBharat.net framework for India-specific initiatives, provided each proposal receives prior administrative clearance from the Secretariat to maintain institutional alignment.

4. Standardisation Contributions and Expert Notes

Academic Members and Honorary Academic Members are expected to contribute to the substantive deliverables of the Society on an active, voluntary basis. Such contributions include authoring normative text, peer-reviewing draft frameworks, and contributing to outcome documentation under open-standardisation and regulatory initiatives. Members are specifically required to furnish subject-matter inputs on draft communiqués and Expert Notes (defined as authoritative, specialized analyses or commentaries on specific doctrinal, technical, or economic questions prepared for the Society's body of knowledge).

5. Advisory Access and Peer Mentorship

Academic Members may engage with the Global Advisory Council, convenorship cohorts, and senior fellows on a collaborative, peer-to-peer basis to support interdisciplinary research. In turn, Academic Members may be requested by the Secretariat or the OBGC to provide scholarly mentorship and technical guidance to Contributing Members, regional working tracks, and student research interns, subject to mutual availability.

6. Intellectual Property, Editorial Discretion, and Confidentiality

All standard drafts, model codes, technical specifications, and normative frameworks produced as part of official Society or OpenBharat.net activities remain the intellectual property of ISAIL unless otherwise executed in an express written agreement. The Secretariat retains sole editorial discretion regarding the publication, distribution, or external profiling of any member-authored research. All non-public working deliberations, draft provisions, and proprietary materials accessed during committee or council activities shall remain strictly confidential by default.
