Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law (ISAIL) Releases 2025–26 Annual Report, Pivoting Operations Toward Technical AI Standardisation


LUCKNOW, INDIA – August 7, 2026 — The Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law (ISAIL) has published its Annual Report for 2025–26, documenting a strategic transition toward market-friendly AI standardisation, sector-neutral governance, and institutional alliances across India and the Global South. Founded in 2018 by Abhivardhan and incorporated in 2019, ISAIL operates as an independent, not-for-profit AI standards forum and industry body.

Key Policy Benchmarks & Strategic Alliances


During the 2025–26 operational cycle, ISAIL co-published India’s first AI Industry Diffusion Report for Central India, the UP.AIACT.IN Report 2026, delivering 77 sector-specific recommendations across 10 industries. To support its standardisation mandate under the AiStandard.io Alliance Charter, the organization expanded its institutional footprint:  


  • 11 Knowledge Partnerships finalized with key entities, including Anrak Legal (ANRAK ONE EDGE), UPAI.space, Chandigarh University Uttar Pradesh, and the Centre for Cyber Law Research at ICFAI University Dehradun.  

  • 7 Alliance Member Entities formally joined the AiStandard.io Alliance.  

  • 5 Event-Specific Knowledge Partnerships established, including engagements with the ET Edge AI Series, the 7th GNLU Annual Legal Services Forum (GALSF 2026), and ET Now Tech Next Summit 2025.  

  • 32 Outcome Documents cataloged and published on the open-access IndoPacific.App repository under Creative Commons licensing.

Conclusion of the 5-Year Research Internship Programme


To consolidate resources toward technical AI standardisation, ISAIL’s Board of Trustees officially concluded its five-year Research Internship Programme, which ran from January 2020 through 2025. Over its duration, the initiative mentored more than 200 students across law, policy, technology, and social sciences, achieving an overall completion rate of 89.30% and an average student efficiency score of 71.8.  


Future Roadmap & "The AI Standard Stack"


For the 2026–27 cycle, ISAIL announced several strategic initiatives to advance responsible AI deployment:  

  • AI Safety Fellowship: Launch of a specialized fellowship in the legal, policy, and technical domains of AI safety, led by Ayushi Agarwal and Deepanshu Singh, Co-Chairpersons of the Global Advisory Council.  

  • The AI Standard Stack: Co-development of a business and technical methodology by Abhivardhan from Indic Pacific Legal Research alongside Bogdan Grigorescu, Bahadur Shah, and Sunil Khemka representing ISAIL.IN, to document AI use cases and skills in a sector-neutral framework.  

  • Standardized Membership: Implementation of a standardized Individual Membership Application Procedure to formalize expert participation across technical and policy committees.

The Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law is an artificial intelligence industry forum, founded by Abhivardhan in 2018. Our mission as a not-for-profit industry forum for the analytics & AI industry in India is to promote responsible development of artificial intelligence and its standardisation in India.

Since 2022, the research operations of the Society have been subsumed under VLiGTA® by Indic Pacific Legal Research.

ISAIL has supported two independent journals, namely - the Indic Journal of International Law and the Indian Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Law. It also supports an independent media and community initiative - The Bharat Pacific.

ISAIL’s India-centric AI policy documentations, community-centric initiatives, and contributions to AI standardisation in India have been acknowledged by the Council of Europe, quite recently.
