Co-authored a Data Policy Thesis with Shruti Kakade for the Hertie School Data Science Lab

Updated: 3 days ago

Okay, this is the news I am personally happy about it.

Happy to know that I co-authored a thesis on Data for Policy with Shruti Kakade for Hertie School.

So it all started with an idea around mapping gaps in regulation, and I was looking at the way the Chevron deference in the US was being thrown away by the United States Supreme Court.

It all started with a curious conversation, and I now realise that I have one of some international publications in 2025.

So I am genuinely happy for me and Shruti, that the idea I gave on regulatory gaps was well-implemented by her. I did my best to help her, kept her motivated, and never expected huge, because after all - Shruti is also a member of the Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law.

It is my duty as ISAIL President to try my best to help our members gain some space to learn, to churn out ideas, to have their own space to improve and develop, because their presence as an ISAIL member is not about any outcome at all. A community has goals, and so does ISAIL - like documentation.

But when documentation becomes a part of your life, you don't need to obsess on short-term goals.

I know that there are so many young people who have we helped, in a small way.

We all need to congratulate Shruti anyways, since it is her huge effort. However, there is nothing wrong in acknowledging that the ISAIL community somewhere steered her to give a space to think, and introspect. I am glad we made it happen :)

I am so delighted that my little help flourished so well. More to come in 2025.
